I've been buying accessories for my house recently and its surprising how i've been drawn to all things pink... although i've had to rein it in as my husband was less than pleased when I turned all our bathroom accessories pink in one fail swoop... pink bath mat, towels, tooth mug and hand wash bottle.. it was funny when he turned to me and said 'BUT it's all bright pink'.. all I could offer was 'you'll get used to it'.. and my husband is for sure a man's man.... rest assured he doesn't have to use the pink towels there are plenty of other options for him to choose from.....lol</div><br /><div align="left"><br />My offerings on this very cold Friday are:<br /></div><br /><div align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681484624877001634" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qggZ-9dGqm8/TtiwKh6jG6I/AAAAAAAAAfk/RgtK0MV2DCs/s320/A1.jpg" border="0" /> <a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/2387949-Pink-Dog">Pink Dog by Boolie Noo Inc..<br /><br /></a><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681485860161938578" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 327px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hm_9vOaSIbE/TtixSbtbZJI/AAAAAAAAAfw/U1EHG4EZrLg/s320/a2.jpg" border="0" /> <a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/1880597-Two-Floral-Pink-Shabby-Chic-Hanging-Hearts">Two Floral Pink Shabby Chic Hearts by Kates Emporium<br /></a></div><br /><div align="center"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681488138585222018" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 307px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b1B9KZLsMSI/TtizXDf3q4I/AAAAAAAAAgU/F8dw4S6q6m8/s320/a3.jpg" border="0" /> <a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/1865025-Personalised-Princess-Castle-Flutterbug-toy-storage-box">Personalised Storage/Toy Box by Flutterbug Interiors<br /></a><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681492981818462210" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8Cpfuv81kOI/Tti3w98qEAI/AAAAAAAAAgg/5YpvUKS2sNs/s320/a4.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/1914909-Flutterbye-Butterfly">Flutterbye Butterfly by Handmade by Jen x0</a></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681493566325820898" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AFnoCDz11qg/Tti4S_aEjeI/AAAAAAAAAgs/IksvabUv8Po/s320/a5.jpg" border="0" /> <br /><p align="center"><br /><a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/1955729-Large-Pink-Potted-Flower">Large Pink Potted Flower By Polky Dot Sky<br /></a><br />Happy Folksy Friday everyone, it feels good to be back! x<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></p>blackcatswhiskershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11246420424061587003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972797483806317246.post-74131491961343419332011-11-29T02:25:00.000-08:002011-11-29T02:36:50.666-08:00Hello again!<div><br /><div>I have been away for what feels like forever and I didn't even so anywhere sunny!<br /></div><br /><div>This is just a short post to say hello again, if there is anyone out there to say hello too?<br /></div><br /><br /><div>I needed a break from crafting after a few big events in my life this year but i'm back now.. It turned out in the end that my sister and brother in law came along with my younger nephew so there was a nice group of us. It was nice to go with my sister as we haven't done anything together for ages.<br /><br />I've never been a big fan of rollercoasters or extreme rides but for some strange reason I thought the saw ride wouldn't be that bad.... Oh how wrong was I! I went on with my niece, husband and brother in law, we sat in a row together. The moment I got on I was panicking about how secure the harness thing was that comes down around you. I knew it was a bad idea and then it was too late to opt out and we had set off plunged into darkness and then the first drop came! OMG... all the while I just wanted to get off and thinking 'it hasn't gone up yet or down that big drop!'... holding on for sheer life we reached the bottom of the vertical climb. It held us there for ages which was like torture for me and my eye lids were hurting from being clamped shut so tight. I just kept telling myself 'it's going to be over in a minute - just hang on'.. When the r<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/TDxAaB8gKhI/AAAAAAAAAW4/WmT-51XS8Xw/s1600/scream.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493336461428140562" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 125px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 160px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/TDxAaB8gKhI/AAAAAAAAAW4/WmT-51XS8Xw/s320/scream.jpg" border="0" /></a>ide finally stopped my niece and husband kept telling me to release my grip as the ride had ended.. when I opened my eyes I looked down and my legs were shaking.. That ride did me in for the rest of the day. My sister said when she heard the screams she knew they were mine.<br /><br />All in all we had a lovely time and my husband, brother in law and niece did all the extreme rides in the park and loved it.<br /><br />I, on the other hand, stayed with my sister and nephew and we had just as much fun on the banana boat, runaway train, flying fish and log flume!<br /><br />When we went on the log flume, my nephew was behind me, the log flume has a few climbs and drops and during the climb for the highest one all I could hear behind me from my young nephew was 'I'm going to die, i'm going to die'... he was fine as his dad was there holding him and it wasn't that high but it was really funny.<br /><br />My sister and I went on the teacups, we sent my neice off to join the cup with her dad and brother in it as we knew she would spin the teacups too much. My sister and I had made a pact that we wouldn't spin it. For a joke I started to spin it a tiny amount that you couldn't really tell it was turning.. she thought I had declared war on her and declaring that I 'started it' she frantically started to spin the teacup faster and faster as I rolled about laughing so hard I was crying trying to stop her.... What a sight we must have been a 36 and 46 year old having a tea cup battle while the little kids looked on. We are not role models and what we did wasn't clever! lol<br /><br />It really was a great day out and I had some side splitting moments of laughter but that Saw ride has confirmed I am not an extreme kinda girl!blackcatswhiskershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11246420424061587003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972797483806317246.post-73469347342750041212010-07-12T06:08:00.000-07:002010-07-12T06:12:31.656-07:00I'm coming Back!Gosh, its been a long time since my last blog post. Life had taken over i'm afraid but i'm back making jewellery and have been at some craft fairs recently. I was at a craft fair at the weekend and lots of my business cards were taken... I kept telling people how my shop had been neglected and how i'd be giving it some tlc soon... anyway I thought 'no time like the present'. No point in giving out business cards if people can't then access my shop.. so...... I'm going to restock my folksy shop later tonight hopefully, take it out of holiday mode and announce my come back on the forum! I just hope some people remember who I am and I hope I get some sales!!blackcatswhiskershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11246420424061587003noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972797483806317246.post-91138784508997485242010-04-16T07:15:00.001-07:002010-04-16T07:31:45.401-07:00Happy Folksy Friday<div align="center"> </div><div align="center">This Friday i've picked a Baby Theme! </div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460741198478234002" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 287px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S8hzMBGi0ZI/AAAAAAAAAWY/CVkbR9yZ38U/s320/babycard.jpg" border="0" /></div><div align="center"> Baby Girl makes Three Card by LoveMaisy<br /><div align="center"><a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/198174"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460740577581227330" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S8hyn4FKXUI/AAAAAAAAAWQ/eSgL4IegzVk/s320/baby+cardi.jpg" border="0" /></a>Lilac Baby Cardi by Lilywhites-Handmade<br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/113598"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460740175677501730" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S8hyQe32MSI/AAAAAAAAAWI/A9ICsYOXBsw/s320/baby+booties.jpg" border="0" /></a> Baby Booties by Seamingly Possible<br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/403277"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460739581072795586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S8hxt3zCZ8I/AAAAAAAAAWA/3j47Elw9CXk/s320/baby+headband.jpg" border="0" /></a> Baby Headband by Sweetpea Family<br /><br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.folksy.com/items/263849"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460738954359588562" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S8hxJZG9xtI/AAAAAAAAAV4/QuERMKZahrs/s320/booties.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><p align="center">Baby Booties by Betty P<br /></p><br />Happy Weekend everyone xx <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S8hxDup0RaI/AAAAAAAAAVw/oh6FD1zHrSI/s1600/booties.jpg"></a><br /></div></div></div></div>blackcatswhiskershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11246420424061587003noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972797483806317246.post-86757082117258645422010-04-12T07:31:00.000-07:002010-04-12T08:15:41.577-07:00This week i've put Flutterbies under the spotlight...<br /><div><div></div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459265763216024642" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 312px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 173px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S8M1SYbxZEI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/cVwGCKy4Hd8/s320/IMG_4477.jpg" border="0" />Can you start by introducing yourself and what you make?<br /><div>I grew up trying every type of craft I could lay my hands on, but some time ago I <span style="font-size:130%;">fell in love</span> <span style="font-size:130%;">with beads</span> and the endless possibilties of working with them, making jewellery, tiaras, accessories... </div><div></div><br /><div>What or who inspired you to get into crafting? </div><div>Definitely <span style="font-size:180%;">my Mum</span>. I answered some questions for flutterbies this week, she asked me what flower I would be and I said a Lavender as I would like to be up high so I could have a nose at what was going on.. so as you can imagine doing these interviews on follow folksy folk is rather up my street being a nosey parker an' all.... Here is my next installment with the lovely Debs.. also rather a coincidence me loving lavender as Debs uses it in her designs.... <span style="font-size:180%;">Super!</span><br /><br /><div align="left">How would you introduce yourself? At the moment I'm having a<span style="font-size:180%;"> bag</span> phase, especially these little tote bags I designed - I'm having great fun making those. I also have a few hearts and lavender bags in my shop, but I'll be branching out into cushions and wall hangings as well in the future.<br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443965852588158882" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 276px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 238px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S4zaGXzfr6I/AAAAAAAAAQI/OQsxtFuBwB8/s320/bag1.jpg" border="0" /><span style="font-size:130%;">When and why did you get into Crochet?</span> My <span style="font-size:180%;"><span style="font-size:100%;">mother</span> taught me</span> to knit when I was a girl, and I always enjoyed it, but it wasn't until January 2009 I decided I'd like to learn how to <span style="font-size:180%;">crochet</span>, so I set about teaching myself, with the help of the internet, magazines and YouTube. Now I much prefer crocheting to knitting - it just seems to suit me much better and flows much more nicely. I used to get terrible cramp from holding the knitting needles, but I don't have any problems like that with crochet! <div align="left"><span style="font-size:180%;"></span></div><div align="left"></div><span style="font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">How would you describe (and what influences) your style?<br /></span>I'm not sure really. My shop was recently called <span style="font-size:180%;">'funky'</span>, which was a real surprise to me because I never thought it was! What I try to do is create something <span style="font-size:180%;">modern and beautiful</span>, and perhaps not what people might expect when they hear the word 'crochet'. It's not all shawls and doilies, not that there's anything wrong with those of course!<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ff33;">What one word describes you the best? I have a <span style="font-size:180%;">3 year old son</span>, who I stay at home to raise, and so I'm very busy with him and his father. I get most of my work done in the evenings after my son has gone to sleep, and on the rare occasions he goes out somewhere without me I can get some done then. I've got into quite a good routine with it now, and usually manage at least an hour's designing/crocheting a day, usually more. </p><p><span style="color:#33ff33;">What is your proudest memory? My hubby and I have been trying for a baby for the last 3 years or so... anyway tomorrow we see the consultant for our first appointment for IVF and we will find out when we start our treatment. It's all so close now and i'm feeling really emotional I needed to blog.. sorry! It's <span style="font-size:180%;">wonderfully sunny outside</span> and I was walking to work thinking how fab it would be to be pregnant in a few months time, I had to stop myself bursting into tears with anticipation.<br /><br />Ask me how I'm feeling about it most days and I just cry with fright and other days (like today) i'm feeling quite excited (there are not many days like this i'm afraid). Why am I scared of something that will hopefully give us something so wonderful? because I so never wanted it to happen like this, IVF is extremely invasive and a minor detail - i'm needle phobic. For 31 years I did everything for it not to happen but then I met a wonderful man who I married and I stupidly thought it would happen when I wanted it to.... story is it didn't! Anyway we see this man tomorrow who will (fingers & toes crossed) hopefully give us the gift of a family, what an amazing job he has! xxblackcatswhiskershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11246420424061587003noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972797483806317246.post-18418640455512734772010-02-24T13:07:00.000-08:002010-02-24T13:39:57.956-08:00Meet the lady that bought you the Minifelts! It's that time again folks.. this week lets say a HUGE hello to the lovely Eve x<br /><br /><div><div><div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>How would you introduce yourself?<br />My name is <span style="font-size:180%;">Eve </span>I’m 24, I’m from the Isle of Wight, and I make <span style="font-size:180%;">Minifelts.<br /></span></div><div><br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441923323895324114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 202px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S4WYbjexndI/AAAAAAAAAPA/y-Rzi-i8YYI/s320/100_2187%5B1%5D.JPG" border="0" /> <div>You draw, sew and make furniture, what do you enjoy doing the most and why?<br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Ooh</span> that’s a tough decision, but I’d say I enjoy sewing the most, especially because it’s Winter as I like <span style="font-size:180%;">snuggling up</span> <span style="font-size:180%;"><span style="font-size:100%;">with</span> my sewing</span> by the fire or in a nice warm bed, gets really cold working outside making driftwood furniture! I love how versatile sewing is, you can make all sorts of things using a few stitches and some fabric.</div><br /><div>When and how did you get into crafting?<br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Only a few months ago</span>, I randomly stumbled across Folksy and Etsy one day whilst browsing the internet and discovered all these <span style="font-size:180%;">wonderful things</span> that people were making. I felt really inspired and wanted to have a go myself, <span style="font-size:130%;">so I found a sewing tutorial</span> online and taught myself some stitches, drew up some templates and I was away! </div><div><br />Do you come from a crafting family?<br />My <span style="font-size:180%;">Mum’s</span> been a <span style="font-size:180%;">big inspiration</span>, she paints and does <span style="font-size:130%;">origami</span>, she also runs small art and crafts classes on the Isle of Wight and has a huge collection of craft supplies, so I’m often stealing bits of fabric and buttons and things off of her! My boyfriends mum is also very creative, she is always full of ideas and has a textiles degree and knits and makes lots of <span style="font-size:180%;">lovely things</span> <span style="font-size:130%;">inspired by the sea</span>, as she lives literally right on the beach.<br /><br />What inspired the creation of the minifelt?<br />Basically I just love <span style="font-size:180%;">cute things</span>! My first sewing project was a little chicken just so that I could get the hang of a few stitches. I really liked the shape and size of my first creation, so I started designing other pocket sized animals. </div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441924011966377330" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 158px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S4WZDmvsrXI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/1TiTpaNrngk/s320/all%2520badges%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" />You have studied music and play the drums, are you in a band or hoping to follow a music career?<br />When I lived in London <span style="font-size:180%;">I was in a band</span> called <a href="http://www.myspace.com/lionobrien">Lion O’Brien </a>(if you have a minute you should have a listen, they’re very feel good!), and am looking to <span style="font-size:180%;">start a new band</span> at the moment. I’m really hoping to make <span style="font-size:180%;">music my career</span> either in a successful band or as a drum teacher/session musician but it’s very hard to make money at it. A lot like turning a crafting hobby into a full time business, which is something else I’d love to do!<br /><br /><div align="center">Where can we buy your creations? </div><div align="center">I have my own <a href="http://www.minifelts.com/"><span style="font-size:180%;">website</span></a> and also I sell on <a href="http://www.folksy.com/shops/minifelts"><span style="font-size:180%;">Folksy</span></a> </div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441923767360593138" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S4WY1XhInPI/AAAAAAAAAPI/E-Mx8g_StGM/s320/DSC_0097%5B1%5D.JPG" border="0" /> Do you have a blog and what is the address?<br />Yes I do, I’ve only just started blogging and <span style="font-size:180%;">I love it</span> and am trying to keep it updated regularly. <a href="http://www.minifelts.blogspot.com/">http://www.minifelts.blogspot.com/</a><br /><br /><div>In terms of minifelts what are your plans for the future?<br />To try and <span style="font-size:180%;">spread the word</span> about Minifelts to anyone that’ll listen! I am very pleased to say that I finally finished her order at the weekend and I took it down to Clare this morning.<br /><br />Clare was in the middle of painting and I must admit to being enormously jealous. She has got a large shop in a great location, I love Carshalton anyway as I used to live there... The shop is looking great already and I just know is going to be a huge success. She asked me if I would hold a jewellery making course there to which of course I said yes!<br /><br />Here is a picture of some of the packaging I came up with for Clare's stock.<br /><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441078751467339010" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S4KYS-Ai_QI/AAAAAAAAAO4/ffITWkOqjGg/s320/DSC05995.JPG" border="0" /><br /><br />I must admit - it hit me like a tonnes of bricks that this is what I want to do. I studied at college to be a secretary, I hated it but my mum told me that it was a steady career. I have managed over the years to move away from that path and I am now a civil servant, I do like my job and I do believe i'm good at it but I can't say its my chosen career or that it makes me happy. </p><p>When I was younger I never aspired to become anything ... over the years I've often said that I wanted to start a business but I had no idea what in and my sister told me that I would just stumble across it one day and she was right ...I did stumble across my jewellery making by accident in 2008 and I love it. I also love Handmade and I know oodles of crafty people now too. SO I want a shop, I want to do what I love, I want to work for myself! So... I am making myself a pact, that over the next few years I am going to work towards my dream. I can do it and I will x</p>blackcatswhiskershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11246420424061587003noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972797483806317246.post-80543871188470178782010-02-15T03:56:00.000-08:002010-02-15T05:29:41.836-08:00Say Hello to Pam..<span style="color:#cccccc;"><span style="font-size:180%;">Yep</span> its that time again folks, i’ve been out and about with <span style="font-size:180%;">my little notepad causing mischief</span> amongst the folksy folk and today I want to introduce you to <span style="font-size:180%;">Pam</span>. I think most of my jewellery is fairly classic but I'm starting to get a little more <span style="font-size:180%;">experimental and modern</span>. </div><div align="left"> </div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438441121726285682" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 223px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 209px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3k5YthfR3I/AAAAAAAAAOQ/xNx4MAGPIY0/s320/averilpam3.jpg" border="0" /><span style="color:#33ccff;">You've been interested in crafts all your life, how did you first get interested?<br /></span>My mum used to make me clothes and I learnt to sew on her treadle sewing machine, making clothes for myself - <span style="font-size:180%;">mini skirts in the '60s</span>! Sadly when she moved from her house into a granny flat with my sister, I didn't have room to take it. All through school art was my favourite subject and I did a year at art college age 17.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3k5F6qa1uI/AAAAAAAAAN4/Qy6aMfU68DI/s1600-h/averilpam6.jpg"><span style="color:#33ccff;"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438440798835889890" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 243px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 192px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3k5F6qa1uI/AAAAAAAAAN4/Qy6aMfU68DI/s320/averilpam6.jpg" border="0" /></span></a><span style="color:#33ccff;">What was the very first craft you tried?<br /></span>I learnt to weave when I lived, very briefly, with friends in a <span style="font-size:180%;">small crofters cottage in Scotland</span>. A friend was a weaver and I used to go and watch her thread up her large floor loom and she taught me the basics. I obtained a small frame, and some wool and started doing some tapestry weaving. Several years later I was taught to spin and bought my first wheel. At one point I did have a large floor loom, but I moved around a lot and had to give it up. Since then I've stuck to small table looms.<br /><br /><p><span style="color:#33ccff;">Where can we buy your goodies?<br /></span>I have a <a href="http://averilpam.folksy.com/"><span style="font-size:180%;">Folksy shop</span> </a>and a <a href="http://www.averilpam.co.uk/"><span style="font-size:180%;">website</span></a> too, I did set it up as a shop but wasn't selling anything so when sales started to take off on Folksy I moved all the stock from there to Folksy, now it just has a gallery with a selection of items, as well as a page about me, contact details, links etc. </p><div align="left"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3k5cRagR0I/AAAAAAAAAOY/2x0HCGZSCx8/s1600-h/averilpam5.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438441182900275010" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 233px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 219px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3k5cRagR0I/AAAAAAAAAOY/2x0HCGZSCx8/s320/averilpam5.jpg" border="0" /></a><span style="color:#33ccff;">When and where did you first start selling your goodies?</span><br />I used to <span style="font-size:130%;">sell to friends</span>, and also made to order for friends, then I started to do some stalls with varying amounts of success. Then just over a year ago I found out about sites like Folksy and <span style="font-size:180%;">decided to set up shop</span>. I had several shops to begin with but I just couldn't make enough stuff to stock them all adequately so I eventually decided to stick with Folksy. Mainly because <span style="font-size:130%;">it's British</span>, and because it's well organised and the <span style="font-size:180%;">forums are so friendly</span>. That's a big part for me, interacting with other craftspeople/artists is so important.<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">Do you have a blog we can follow you on?<br /></span>Sadly no. <span style="font-size:180%;">I'd love to but</span> I wouldn't want to do it unless I could do it justice and make it interesting which would involve a fair bit of time and energy. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and my energy is very limited. I need most of it for making things!<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">Any tips for those just learning to weave?</span><br />Mainly start simply - maybe make a small frame (or use an old picture frame without any glass.) <span style="font-size:180%;">Just wind wool round tightly</span> to make a warp then experiment. Get some books out of the library, look online for tutorials then decide if you want to invest in a proper loom and decide what you want to be able to make in order to decide what size to get. The loom I use the most is an<span style="font-size:180%;"> Ashford Knitters Loom</span> - it's called that because you can use fairly thick wool in it - I use it for my homespun which I usually make too thick for the other loom I have - and it makes good scarves.<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">What do you enjoy doing when you are not crafting?<br /></span>I love <span style="font-size:180%;">photography</span> and <span style="font-size:180%;">my garden</span> and I love to combine the two with visits to open gardens in the <span style="font-size:180%;">spring and summer</span>. I love to meet up with friends for tea and cake in the afternoon!<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">What is your happiest memory?<br /></span>Probably seeing each of my <span style="font-size:180%;">grandchildren</span> for the <span style="font-size:180%;">first time</span> would probably be the two happiest moments.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3lEZh79-4I/AAAAAAAAAOg/HO_s8WcwCC4/s1600-h/jane-austen.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438453230423899010" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 207px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 159px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3lEZh79-4I/AAAAAAAAAOg/HO_s8WcwCC4/s320/jane-austen.jpg" border="0" /></a><span style="color:#33ccff;">If you could have dinner with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and why?</span><br />I think it would have to be <span style="font-size:180%;">Jane Austen</span> - I just love her books!<br /></div><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"><span style="color:#33ccff;">If you could have one wish what would it be?<br /></span>To see my <span style="font-size:180%;">grandchildren grow up</span> and become a great-granny!<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">What is your favourite place and why?<br /></span>This is something that keeps changing. <span style="font-size:130%;">My daughter lives in the USA</span>, so wherever she lives becomes my favourite place!<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">Favourite movie?</span><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Picnic at hanging rock.</span><br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">You enjoy photography, what is your favourite photograph and why?<br /></span>I have a few but I think <span style="font-size:180%;">my most favourite</span> is one I took in Oregon, it's of the <span style="font-size:180%;">Columbia River Gorge</span> from a lovely viewpoint. The mountains in the distance are in Washington State on the other side of the river. It was my first visit to the USA and we did lots of sightseeing, I <span style="font-size:180%;">fell in love</span> with Oregon. </div><p align="left"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438438400280526674" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 280px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 185px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3k26TWQf1I/AAAAAAAAANg/ViQi-3OHjaU/s320/oregon.bmp" border="0" /><span style="color:#33ccff;">What did you want to be when you were growing up?</span><br />I was never sure, but just knew that <span style="font-size:180%;">I loved art</span> and wanted to do art or photography.<br /><br /><span style="color:#33ccff;">And Finally......... </span></p><br /><p align="center"><span style="color:#33ccff;">Tell us one thing we would not know about you?</span><br /></p><br /><p align="center"></p><br /><p align="center">Up until a few years ago I always had at least one dog, at one point two dogs and a cat and I really miss them.<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438456995231990402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 171px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 137px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3lH0q8KgoI/AAAAAAAAAOw/ZmW1Sr_sACU/s320/paw.jpg" border="0" /></p><br /><div align="center"></div><div align="center">Thanks Pam x </div><div align="center"></div><div align="center">That's me signing out until Next Time..</div>blackcatswhiskershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11246420424061587003noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972797483806317246.post-25961706957335796292010-02-14T13:00:00.000-08:002010-02-14T14:14:05.212-08:00What a talented bunch folksy folk are!On Thursday I won a <span style="font-size:180%;">gorgeous</span> crochet heart by <a href="http://www.folksy.com/shops/muddybarefeet">Pipistrelle Crochet Designs</a>.<br /><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438208464406021058" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3hlyRdxg8I/AAAAAAAAAMQ/wmHFiBNkwKc/s400/heart" border="0" /></div><p>It was just so lovely to open the package and the <span style="font-size:180%;">smell of lavender</span> was just <span style="font-size:130%;">beautiful</span>! Today is the Day! I woke up this morning and hubby and I swapped valentines Cards and gifts... most of which were bought from fellow folksy folk! Apart from his ferrero rocher (<span style="font-size:180%;">yum yum</span>) .. xx<br /><p>This card was made by <a href="http://www.folksy.com/shops/digtheearth">Dig the Earth </a>and was made with the words I asked for, great service and <span style="font-size:180%;">absolutely fab card</span>, hubby-pants loved it!</p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438213020619738946" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3hp7erxj0I/AAAAAAAAANA/udhgPtUfAcw/s320/DSC05904.JPG" border="0" /></p>Hubby bought my card from <a href="http://www.folksy.com/shops/mollymoo">Mollimoo</a>, <span style="font-size:180%;">I just love Hilary's cards!</span> It is so much nicer to have gorgeous cards lovingly handmade than to buy cards made in bulk by people who don't take anytime over them!<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438212763819479330" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qL0C3hZOaY4/S3hpsiB0kSI/AAAAAAAAAMw/Qs04xvZP7Is/s320/card+1.jpg" border="0" />We then did gifts, Hubby bought me these earrings and bracelet from Tracy at <a href="http://www.folksy.com/shops/cinnamonjewellery">Cinnamon Jewellery</a>. <span style="font-size:180%;">How lovely are these!</span> I wore them today.
